Halloween is one of those themes that's been done to death. Here's a scarecrow, there's a witch, and of course Dracula is lurking somewhere as well. When I was hired by Imagehaus to help them develop some ideas for CVS/Pharmacy's Halloween candy aisle, the first thing I did was draw as many scarecrows, pumpkins, witches, and Draculas as I could stand, just to get them out.
Once I'd purged myself of the clichés, I wandered off into that candy aisle in my brain to see who else I could find. With some great art direction by Jay Miller, we discovered "Ween, the Candy Fiend" who rules over the Hall of Ween (a.k.a. the CVS candy aisle.)
Granted, Ween was a little out there, and a bit too out there for CVS, but I think he has some attributes to recommend him: he's full of all the mischief relevant to the season; he's pink and purple, which stands out well from all the orange and black packaging for the rest of the Halloween candy and costumes; and if nothing else, he's a friendly monster who just wants to share with you all the candy he's collected. Sounds tasty to me!
